Default River Keepnet

I have 3 Keepnets, 2 for Carp and 1 for Silver Fish, i have only ever used these Keepents on Still Waters, would they be suitable for use on the Rivers or should i think about investing in a more open meshed keepnet due to the rivers flow ?

Please be aware this would only be for shoal fish such as Roach and would be pegged out so the fish would be facing upstream.

Thanks in advance for the tips and advice.

No probs, just suggesting how you could save a bit of money and excess luggage.

I can well appreciate that Matt.

My thinking is, that i will be looking to try some River fishing on a light Fedder set up for Roach and other small fish.

As i have often heard that Roach are a shoal fish and that returning them can and will more than likely spook off the rest of the Shoal, then i thought that using a Keepnet that is correct for the job in hand would help to minimise them being spooked.

If this is indeed not the case then i will happily fore go with the use of a keepnet and return them happily as soon as unhooked.

Oh, i wouldn't dream of fishing for them in this heat, i was thinking more in the later Autumn months, weather permitting of course.

SV,

The silverfish keepnet you have should do just fine. Many don't use keepnets today, thats up to them, but as long as you stake the net out correctly, I can't see there being a problem.

Thanks Ray,

Your reply seems just the answer i was looking for.

I am quite happy to return single fish to swims if i am say looking to only catch 1 or 2 in a short period of time and then move on to another swim.

I really don't see why it is ok to use a Keepnet in a Match but not as a Pleasure Angler seeing as most pleasure anglers will put less fish in to a keepnet than a Match Angler (well perhaps not).

It should either be ok to do so or not ok to do so, regardless of the fishing.

Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and replies, it will put my mind at rest.
