F.B. stopped off at leslies of luton on the way home from london. £3.50 for a kg of nuggets, bargain! From what I can gather Frothey it is a mixture milk proteins, vegetable concentrate and cereals. I was under the impression that most modern baits even fishmeals usually have some ammounts of milk derivitive in them anyway? I re-freeze my cheesepaste all the time and that has milk powder in it and seems to get better with age!

it depends on how the bait works....some cheeses get better with age, some go off very quickly.

with fishmeals i reckon they are best either when very fresh, or when going off - there are different things going on at each stage.

milks seem to be at there best when fresh - the right "reactions" are happening - and when they get old, properly "active" and start breaking down they normally float anyway!

Blimey Frothey your a mine of info on this subject mate! I can understand what you say about the milk proteins and will bear it in mind. In theory how long would you say a boilie(home rolled) could be frozen for before youd consider it of no use? I know its a how long is a piece of string type question but I've been told between three and six months. Be a bit of a ****** having gone to all that trouble only to find a baits past it! I tend to freeze a few bags and take what I consider I need for a session, and like everyone else (I imagine) I end up with a few odd bags that spend a bit of time in the deep freeze.

I actually add a load of baby milk powder to my cheesepaste (stops it going hard in cold water) does that mean i shouldn't be refreezing that? It's never seemed to affect it before.

if you catch on it better when its old bynasty, thats all you need to know.....

baby powder is a bit different to the pure milks though

i've never had bait in the freezer that long don! three months sounds a bit short, 6 would be about right - but i wouldnt really worry about it (within reason). i bet there are a few bags kicking around in the bottom of some shops freezers older than that.....

I've got some cracking on for a year and half Don and it's still fine! I should probably stop chopping and changing baits so much but I get bored easily. I'll try to limit the ammount of bait I take I think Frothey although I will refreeze some bits and see if it has any effect.

Fresh bait(both boillies and cheespaste) is the most effective by far. Its a pain having to keep making bait but it certainly seems to pay dividends in terms of results.

I chuck in any left over frozen baits at the end of a session and don't ever buy shelf-life baits. That way there is never the temptation to use second rate bait instead of making fresh.

Just had a new best chub on my first cast with the cheesepaste that is a year and a half old and been defrosted and refrozen at least half a dozen times!
