Get soemone to hold the line spool twix their finger and thumb and keep a bit of pressure on it.

What line is up to you, but see if you can get 150 yard spools. That way you can put 75 yards on and save the rest until later.

Some only put 50 yards on, but it's up to you.

Get a tape measure on the diameter of the spool (or work it out Pi x R, is it?) and divide that into the number of yards you want. That's roughly the number of turns of the spool. Easy with a pin.

Ok, just refreshed my memory - its'

diameter times Pi (3.14 approx)

So a 4.5" diameter spool would give 14.13 inches circumference.

50yards x 36 inches = 1800 inches / 14.13 127 turns of the handle.

I think.

Just as you wind the line on, use your little finger to spread it evenly from side to side.

If you've ever used a multiplier without a level-wind you'd be used to it. Otherwise it takes a bit of practice, but since there's not much line of there it's not going to bed in or twist over much anyway.

it doesnt seem to matter how you load a centre pin but some anglers like the line to come off the top of spool and others the bottom i have it coming off the bottom on my stanton

Its not often you ever trott more than 25 yds, so this is what you will actually fish with. If your going for, say, 50 yds total lay the majority of the line to the right, as you look down, of the drum. Then spread 25 yrds or so evenly over the rest of the drum. You then avoid the line bedding in and have a reserve should you hook a biggun at the end of the run through.

Marcus,
The only time you really need the assistance of line coming off the top of the drum on a 'pin is in very windy conditions.

It will help avoid those awkward tangles caused by excessive wind.
On those ocassions it also helps to tape an additional ring between the reel and the first proper rod ring.

Hope this helps.
