Wendy... I live close by, there are a couple of free stretches, and I know that there are Chub, Grayling, Trout, the odd Pike etc,I have even been told that lower down at a stretch belonging to Bradford number 1 near Cooper Bridge, that Barbs up to about 4lb are there and catchable, I would like to know which stretch you think looked good, ( especially if it was around Halifax ! ) I must have missed it in the last 54 years..So far as Day ticket stretches are concerned, I dont know of any, but ring J Jewson, Gun shop, Halifax, they should help.
Even though the Calder is only 2 miles from my home, I have only fished it a few times.

Hi Wendy,

I haven't fished there for many years but this is how I remeber it...

- Upper reaches around Mytholmroyd and Luddenden Foot mainly trout

- Nice fishing around Copley with some large roach (may now have been pushed out by chub)

- Lowfields and beyond was Bradford No1 and may still be. Best fishing was a couple of miles below Brighouse quite a bit after Jenny Dee's (?) on Wakefield Road. Used to have very good catches of Roach but believe this may no longer be the case (you'll need to research)

I always enjoyed the fishing around Copley behind the playing fields. The roach were immaculate and could go quite large (2lb) - would be interested to know what it's like now.

Hi Wendy,

This was eating me up so I did some research. The club that used to control the fishing in Copley was Ryburn AS. They merged with Dean Clough and the address is below. Used to have some really friendly evening matches on the Calder years ago - great fun. Also listed is some other information I came across.

PS: If George Uzans is still at Jewson's that he's the man to ask...

George left Jewsons a lot of years ago....he went to work for Silstar, then moved on again, I have not seen George for about ten years or more, his mother Gerti Uzans was a first rate angler.
I think the Jewsons you used to know was right in the Town Centre,it was managed by Ronnie Wood, a very nice man,who retired, it moved many moons ago to Horton St and is under new ownership, but kept the same name.
