hi i found a real prawn bargain in my local grocery shop yesterday, 12 pounds of prawns for just £6... i don't know your prices of prawns in the UK but in sweden this is very cheap

now to the question; have you tried baiting up with prawns? like using it instead of corn and pre-baiting the swim a day before the session using about 0.9 pounds or something like that?

if you've tried it, did you peel them? and did you peel your hookbait?

cheers mates

Hello Dan I have used prawns but only the peeled variety they definatly do catch tench in this form but have never tried them in the shells .I would think pre baiting would defenatly do the job good luck and happy tenching.
What size do the tench get too over in Sweden Dan.

Both tench and carp love 'em. Only ever used the cooked and peeled variety myself, but I have read somewhere that the carp in particular also quite like them with the shells on - the crunchy factor ! Will try it some time soon I think.

But do be sure to use only cooked ones, there are some worries about uncooked imported varieties carrying some nasty viruses etc. See page 6 of this weeks Anglers mail

PS. In passing this is the first time I have bought AM in years....

But AT has seriously deteriorated to almost nothing worth reading + hundreds of fat fish pics which teach you nothing + self serving ads and advertorials.

So I picked up an AM on impulse instead. And was very agreeably surprised. A lot of readable and useful articles, almost more like a monthly mag than a weekly rag. Will stick with it I think.)

I have heard that chub are quite partial to the odd prawn.

I have some frozen ones I will be trying on a commercial carp water this closed season, I will report back on the success or failure.

try shelling the prawns and then grind up the shells to use in your groundbait mix.

Prawns are an excellent tench bait. You dont need many to bait up with, leaving more to eat yourself! I've found no difference in raw or cooked. Shelled are easier to keep on the hook or semi shelled. Carp absolutely love them with shells on and I hear chub are keen on them too, not that I'd know, bloody bogey fish, grrrr!!!!!
Prawn shells are an excellent additive to boilies too.

"fresh from the royal blue mersey!"

As distinct from the 'Royal Red' part is it Eddie?

Be careful if there are perch in the water you fish. They absolutely love prawns. I tried using them on my favourite tench lake and just caught perch after perch.
