Default Have you got a Favourite Fishing Rod ?

I have, it's the Harrison 1lb8ozstc 12ft Barbel Rod.

In all the years I've been fishing, this has to be the best Big Fish rod I have ever owned.

Mine were built by George Howell, that Great old Rod builder, now sadly departed, but not forgotten, because every time a catch a fish on these rods I think of George

Great Rods and a lasting tribute to George !!

Bob

To pick just one is not easy but one rod ive had a good while now,its been a good friend and ive had a lot of fun with it over the years. Its green my favourite colour for a rod, short cork and duplon handle that has taken on the patina of an old oak box ,sliding reel fittings and ive a green shakespeare fly reel on him that is just the perfect colour size and weight for the rod.
all my favourite rods are named after a river.
this ones named after John Wilson.

I have two really: the first is a Carbotec 13' FAST No 3 Feeder rod and the other is a Carbotec 13' FAST No3 Float rod.

Ideal for Barbel fishing and will 'tame' just about anything that swims in a river.

They are the forerunners of the 'carbonactive' type of rods that cannot 'lock-up' when playing a fish.

There is a number 2 Carbotec float rod on e-bay now, but as a warning, it ain't cheap . . . . . .

Probably a Greys powerplay pike rod that I bought almost 20 years ago now. It has a incredible through action and slim blank even today for a 3lb rod. What makes it special is the fact it was the first 'good' rod I ever bought with my own money. I just wish I could find another one or two to make up a set.

I have a drennan matchpro float rod that I should love but for some reason I just don't. I'm not really sure why, it's a good looking well built rod and seems to perfectly fit the fishing I ask it to do and whats more it does that job absolutely brillantly. From a logically point of view the rod is faultless but it just seems soulless. Oh, and yes I'm aware how stupid that sounds.

A toss up between an oldish GTI 15' and a chimera 1.8t/c.

Pretty much all of them really, horses for courses, so it's the one that does the best job at the time. There's a couple or three I have to put a bend in yet so one of them might wear the crown at some time.

But, the one I really enjoy fishing with now is the H-Design Sulis Travel rod, 4 pc, 1½lbs, and it feels like it's part of your body, an extension of your arm.

Oooh....very tough call as I am a shameless tart and own far too many rods. For float fishing I think my 13' Carbonactive Sentient probably just shades it whereas for a bit of heavier "traditional" work [float or lead] I have an 11' Hardy Marksman Avon which is an absolute dream of a rod to use.

My "go to" fly rod is an original 10' Greys Platinum X rated for a 7. See's more action that all the [several] others put together.
