Default The landing net thread!

Just as a matter of interest what landing nets do you use?
Seeing as there are loads of brands and different mesh types, frame sizes etc it can be a bit daunting when choosing a new one.
Tell us what you own/use for each method/species. What shape frame/mesh do you favour?also which brand in your opinion makes the best nets?

For general river and stillwater fishing i use an old JW Wanderer net which i have had for years.Circular net(24inch) i believe i still favour this net as the newer nets on the market seem mostly to come with a very shallow depth to them.

The JW will suffice for all the smaller species but when after bigger barbel bream and tench i use a korum spoon net. Finally for carp and pike its the bog standard 42 inch triangular net, the version made by Caliber tackle to be precise.Again have had this for years and is pretty much bomb proof.

Greys rubber spoons for the smaller stuff, Korum 30" spoon for barbel, pike and most carp. I also have a 42" triangular which I rarely use.

Daiwa Tournament Rubba or Shimano Beastmaster rubber match spoons if I've got the match gear out with Daiwa Tournament or Shimano Beastmaster handles.

Smaller species or roving will see the Drennan Specialist 24" net or Fox 30" Specialist come out. Drennan Super Specialist or Gardner Specialist handles.

Barbel is likely to see the Gardner Barbel Spoon used with either Drennan or Gardner handles.

Carping it'll be the Greys Prodigy 36" or X-Flite 42" depending on the size of the fish expected or even the venue rules.

Well Sam, I would never have took you for a tackle tart, matching your nets with the handle of the same brand!!!!

Same here I'm afraid, the X-flite Plus 42 inch net and handle is a really well designed and well made piece of kit, and the etched Greys symbols match my rods too . . . . . neat that LOL

They are not cheap, in fact they are blooming expensive but you'll only ever buy one instead of 3 or 4 of a cheaper model, so cost justified in my book.

GREYS X-FLITE PLUS LANDING NET

Whilst it probably amounts to the same thing, it's more of an obsessive compulsive thing than anything. I do like things to match and collections to be complete. That applies to anything, not just fishing gear. Once I buy a book by a particular author or a CD by a particular artist/band, I have a nasty compulsion to buy everything by them.

A Korum spoon for bream and tench and a 36" triangular Korum net for carp and pike. I also have one of those round nets used in tv by J Wilson esq but I cant remember who made them.

I have several nets but i think my favourite is a TFG which had a zip up stink bag/cover included with it. It's well big anough for double figure pike, barbel, carp etc. I have a gardner barbel net (an good net but a bit big for me) brand new and unused...it's for sale if anyones interested.
