Yep, the loss of the coal and steel industries might not have done much for the local economy but it`s certainly improved the fishing round here.

Oh and here`s the article I was on about, it was Bob Roberts. River Don Barbel | Bob Roberts - Fishing information for the complete angler

I've no plans yet. I'll probably avoid the weekend and fish on the Monday, probably on the Swale, but possibly on the Don. Having married a Chesterfield girl who's house backed on to the Hipper I've seen the recovery of he Rother over the past years. It still has its problems with toxic run off from the waste ground in certain areas, but it certainly prduces some lovely fish.

Either on the river the evening before for a midnight cast or, more likely, asleep in bed!
I don't usually fish the first two weeks of the new season, I prefer to let the rush die down. Saying that though, the "close season shakes" have been particularly bad this Year so really not sure

I've just checked my calendar and I'll be here at work for the opening weekend, more's the pity.

Still, my schedule is for 10 days at work then 4 days off, so the following week I'll get to fish the Friday before the crowds at the weekend.

Hey ho!

I will avoid the river for the opening weekend as most of the more productive stretches are usually rammed in my experience.I will most likely spend the 16th on a private lake that still enforces a close season.I will have tench on my mind but last year a rather special carp turned up, i would not be displeased if the same happened this year.
