Default Muscliffe/Throop...

Chaps,

I've searched the forums but can find nothing for the last two years or so on the aforementioned stretch. Has anyone fished Muscliffe recently?

Myself and fishing partner have tried Throop with varied (limited!) success and were thinking of giving Muscliffe a bash in June. The obvious advantage is it being free, but over and above that it seems to be a very picturesque stretch of the Stour with some decent action.

I just cant find any up to date info. Past reports have suggested caster over hemp as a decent approach (or sweetcorn) but there's no news since 2010. Any help or advice much appreciated (either here or PM). Our plan was to travel light, try out a few swims, walk the banks a bit and see how we go.

Cheers,
Gus

I fished Muscliff in March 2011 and caught a nice 5lb 7oz chub and some dace and roach all on trotted red maggot. Very pretty stretch with some nice features and as you say free. Don't know what it would be like in June though except I do remember being plagued by minnows in some spots.

Just in case you weren't aware, there is also a free stretch immediately downstream of the Ringwood road bridge/Longham waterworks.

This has fantastic chub fishing. I had a 6lb7 last year and have seen numourous bigger being caught.

There are also pike and barbel frequently caught (apparently) as well as the usual suspects.

Only trouble is, it attracts it's fair share of littering scumbags, but plenty of serious anglers, too. If its a sunny Saturday you best get there early!

Thanks, Malc...

Fortunately, we're planning to go on a Monday so hopefully it'll be nice and quiet. Cheers for the PM, Peter.

Just waiting for venue expert Mark Wintle to pop along now...!!

Thanks all,
Gus
