Default bitten off lobs?

how do you hook Them?

Through the head

Through the saddle

through both?

Recently putting lobs just hooked through the head the worm comes back bitten off!
If a lob of say 6 inches hooked through the head it always perplexes me why a perch wants to gobble up 6 inches prefering to nip it off.

recently while perch fishing this kept happening so i switched to maggs but others seem to have more success on lobs. How can you avoid these biten off lobs

when i use lobs for perch fishing i half them anyway and hook just below where the end is halfed and use the other halfs chopped up for a bit of groundbait (perch seem to be attracted to a leaky lob straight away)

I agree with Rab I would use the tail half hooked through the cut end.
Seems like your fish only want half anyway....

Went fishing yesterday afternoon for a few hours on the float, used half worms had nice mixed bag of crucians and roach, put a full worm on and had a bonus 6lb carp but it was a long wait, usually throw the cut pieces of worm over the float,it's been a while since i float fished and i'd forgotten what a pleasure it is.

On a smallish hook, up to size 12 say, I usually nip a lob in half and use the head end since that's where the CNS and the hearts are and therefore the end that will stay lively and wriggling. The rest, if I've got plenty of worms, I add to ground bait or nip into bits and catapult around the bait.
I hook the head end 1/4" into the cut end about 1/4" behind the 'saddle' (genital area) and leave the pointy end to wriggle free.
If the fish need more than that to get them going a twitch or two now and then does the trick..

Hook through the saddle and use a couple of maggots to ensure the worm stays on the hook.

i usually use 3 half lobs (1 and half) worms on a size 8-6 hook......... thread the worm round the hook so only the hook point is exposed.... the cut end nearest to the hook point.........

here's another one...

Cut the lob in half. Place on a size 10 or 12, passing the hook through the cut end. Secure the two sections by cutting a small square of thick elastic band (the red ones the post office use are perfect) I think band adds some good colour too. I use a bit about 4mm or 5mm long

Are there any crays where you're fishing? They can be a proper pain with lobs, on them in a second or two

This is usually a sign of small fish. Like to use a decent size hook, hook the bait through the saddle and secure with a small piece of elastic band to keep the hook point clear. I will then nip the tail of the worm off to let out a scent trail. Another useful tip in really colored water is to get a razor blade and score part of the length of the worm.
