Default Fishing the Avon near Bath. Where can I fish?

Can anyone help me. I will be staying near Bath a few miles away. The village is actually called Kingsdown along the Bath-Chippingham road, I think it is the a326. I will be very near the Box Tunnel which was built be Brunnel, the river Avon runs along here and I will be very near it. Can I fish along this, is there any day-ticket or free water? Many thanks.

I don't know the area very well, but when I stayed at Freshford near Bath in February I found a cracking day ticket stretch of the Avon through the Amalgamated Fisheries website. Got my ticket from a shop in Trowbridge.

You don't say when you are going mark but if it's soon you may find it's in spate and unfishable.
Memories of the FM "flood in" at Avoncliff spring to mind.....

Hi Peter, it may be in a couple of weeks time. My sister has moved to a village called Kingsdown. She says it overlooks the Box Tunnel and the Avon. I thought time to go and overstay ! my welcome. I think it may be run by bathhampton club. I have checked their website and tried to send them a email. But I think it did not go through, will try again. May be OK to fish later if the rain dies down; will have to check that though before going but, thanks for the warning.

Thanks Dicky I will try that link for amalgamated fisheries, sounds just the ticket!

Just had a quick look --could be ideal, I will contact them...many thanks

There is some free water in Bath itself though most water is either Bathampton or Amalgamation.

Thanks mark w, had a look at the amalgamation website and this seems to offer near what I want. About 20 years ago watched a bloke fill up 2keepnets in the Bath city center (roach and chub). I believe it was a free stretch back then and probably still is. Failing all else might give it a go but, would like to get something very near where I will be staying. cheers.

I match fished the Avon extensively 1989 to 1994 and also had an Amalgamation season ticket. Access was better then prior to the building of the Bath bypass as I often pleasure fished at Bathford and Batheaston. There was in those days plenty of roach, some chub, bream and silver bream (usually called hybrids). In Batheaston there was a tiny bit of free fishing but can't remember which bit was which! I usually fished with waggler or stick with hemp and caster as it is shallower than the stretches downstream of Bath which lends itself to the Topper or feeder.

Thanks again Mark, will check it all out in due course. Might only be for a couple of days repairing a roof so a bit of free fishing not far away might just be the thing. And I will not mind a few roach or chub and bream whatever. I am mainly fishing just for pleasure these days so that will do me. cheers.
