Sat by the GUC behind Tescos today. 5m whip, single maggot etc and a bloke turned up on the opposite side with what looked like carp gear and started plumbing up down the track. Appr 5ft.
Probably the strangest set up I've seen yet?
Double lob on the hook.
Reckoned he was eel fishing.
Just googled it and it wasn't a vaccuum cleaner.

Yes - it's my preferred method for fishing livebaits for big perch, when a bait needs to be held in one spot rather than roving. Usually fished on high banksticks, alarms and light bobbins on a long drop. It's very effective, and totally tangle free.

Interesting rig, I had heard of it, but never studied it closely.

I may just be giving it a try for eels when it gets warmer.;)

Bobbing for eels used to be very popular, it was done by fixing worms to a length of wool and winding into a ball tied to your line. The eels tend to get fastened to the ball and you then pull them out of the water.

Yes, I used an end rig like that in the early '70's for presenting small livebaits in deep (30-40') water for.....well, whatever was down there.

All I ever caught were 2-3lb horrible slimy eels.........:eek:mg:

Dyson rig.........mmmmm?

I thought I had invented it, but there's nothing new in fishing I suppose?

It's resitance to tangles is what eventually led me to it, I was having all kinds of problems with other paternoster rigs, especially when using bleak for bait. As long as the hooklength is shorter than the distance between the float and the swivel, it just can't tangle, especially if using relatively stiff flourocarbon. It is nice and free running too. If you fix the float between two rubber float stops, you can very easily change the depth it's fishing.

That's a thought Skip, lobs on a dropshot rig can work well....

I looked at the rig in the original link and that was my first thought, that it would resemble a similar presentation to dropshotting if twitched with the rod?

Stuck on the chuffin M25 somewhere between Heathro
He was after eels Skip, but said he had caught bream, carp, and big perch.

That's interesting....I didn't know that stretch had any sort of a reputation for eels and those that fish for them are normally fairly secretive coves.Round the back of Tesco's isn't where I'd normally expect to find an eel angler.....not round here anyway given the size of the snakes in some of the Colne valley pits.

Eel fishing doesn't appeal to me particularly...but then again :D

The diagram in the link in my 1st post show a shallowish water.
The track on the canal is 5/6 ft.
It reminds me of the widely banned beachcaster rig for floating baits.
Kind of Dyson rig in reverse.
It also uses the effect of a sunken float paternoster rig for pike....
Thanks Reeds for your info.
I'm going to give it a go.
