Chair for under £100

Seems a good offer if unintentionally inflated RRP's are to be believed (!).

Speaking from a great deal of experience here (shut it Skip!) have you considered a straight forward chair with the addition of your own universal accessories?

The only reason I ask that is that I fairly recently bought an accessory chair off of ebay and whilst I'm quite happy with it the realisation has dawned on me that I'm stuffed with a load of useless accessories if the chair fails or vice versa (and they do, and I've had to modify it).

It might still be ok in that situation depending on the type of attachment or if you're handy at bodging things.

If I were you I would find a chair that you are going to be happy with and add universal accessories separately as the chances of finding something robust, comfortable and with the right accessories in the first place are fairly slim in my opinion.

Edited to add: And this is one of my big gripes...

If you enlarge that image it seems to me that the tray attachment is on the tilt under nothing more than it's own weight and barely would be good for a bag of feathers let alone a couple of filled bait tubs, coffee, phone and all the usual bits 'n bobs, add to that the fact that if the thing it's attached to, namely the chair, is anything other than bolt level it will just compound the problem.

I just think that accessory chairs are a good idea in principle but practically all but useless in practice, I bought a separate, cheap bivvy table with extendable legs to get around that problem even though I use it for bait tubs, cups of tea etc.

Hi Nick,
You should realise that Binka is the FM Champion of Chair Failures (.. and how to fix them!) - he has more experience in this field than the rest of the membership put together - if he makes a recommendation then I suggest you go with it! ;):)

For pure stability, comfort and the ability to attach different aids; bait tray, feeder arms etc., then I would recommend the Korum range.

I have had both of my Korum chairs for years with never a problem, other than once not setting it right and ending up on my backside on the bank, but that was my fault . . . . . .

EZ Chair - Korum, Fishing Made Easy

I have the original Accessory chair as well as the original lightweight version, as well and both have seen good service.

The full range of Korum accessories all fit as do all of Preston's as well, and while they are not the cheapest I do consdier them to be the best.

I don't think there is any substitute for going somewhere and sitting on one.
Some look good in photos but are cheap and nasty in practise and don't last long. (At least for me anyway).

Being tall I have a Daddylong legs from Nash. It is very comfortable but only of use if you are fishing near the car as its VERY heavy.

I have a Fox lightweight roving Adjuster Chair that is light but a struggle to get up out of.(Great for getting a back ache from it).

I have a Chub "carp" chair that is light enough to carry a distance and is reasonably comfortable.

As I said, I think it best to try one. I doubt if there is one chair to do all types of fishing that you specify. Will it be suitable for sloping banks as well as flat "prepared" pegs.

I have yet to find a chair which fits all my needs and presently own three different ones for different situations (river static, river roving and lake) all of which have been modified for my own comfort and convenience. I also have a couple of seatboxes.

My advice is as it always is when making any major purchase.

1) Write down a list of 6 things you want from a chair in order of importance.

2) Try and find a chair which fits as many of them as possible.

3) If you find one which meets 4 or more of your requirements then buy it.

4) Be prepared to modify a standard seat for a specific purpose

Good luck.

The one thing to do is totally ignore any RRP on TFG products. They are usually way over what they sell for and usually way over what they are worth.

I've had JRC and Chub chairs and found them to be very good.
