Purist 11 Reel sluggish

My J W Young Purist 11 Centrepin reel turns a bit sluggish. Has anyone had this problem ? What can be done to solve the problem ?

Clean the bearings out and apply some new oil ,sewing machine oil.

First of all check that the drag screw is wound back completely. If it is remove the spool pull back the release catch and hold it back and gently clean out the spindle housing being careful not to leave any bits of fluff in there. Add a couple of drops of sewing machine oil and spin it round for a few minutes and see how it runs.
That's what i'd do before doing anything else.

If it's new it should still whizz round with ease since it runs on ball bearings.

Thanks for your replies. It is a old reel. but not used for awhile, due to illness.
