Yes, many times, back in the early 90's mainly on those terrific Danish Festivals fished on some pretty deep lakes where the target species were Bream and hybrids.

We used them as they were easier and a lot quicker to "set" than a swing tip.

Strangely though it was some of the Swedish anglers that first put us onto them, but after a little practice they became a fixed part of our festival 'kit'

Sadly though, the local councils banned groundbait on those lakes and those festivals just died. A lot of the anglers moved onto the Scandinavian Masters held in Sweden but there is was a 4 day festival fishing a diffeent river each day.

Many many years ago (late 50's or early 60's can't remember) I watched an old fella fishing Earlswood Lakes for bream and roach and he had a cane with a thin length of very flexible rod (not sure what it was made of) glued into the top of it. This was pushed into the ground alongside his rod and the line between the reel and the first ring was pulled to the side and over it then slight tension applied, just enough to show drop back bites. I sat on the wall directly behind him and I was amazed at the unmissable bites that this homemade device indicated, this of course was in the days of homemade bobbins or twigs placed over the line as bite indicators long before quivertip rods.

Could it have been Mr Spiders I now wonder.

thanks for all the info gents,I had an inkling that I was on to a winner with this device for deep water.
Graham your post regarding the home made spike in the ground with an indicator along side the rod sparked a memory of reading a way of doing this in the angling times decades ago ,I am not 100% sure but I think it was written by ..dare I say it..................Richard Walker ,please feel free to correct me if that is not the case because if Ron clocks this ...well you know the rest!
ps what method is used to attatch the custom made jobbies to the rod Graham..

I have since ironed out the design flaws of your inferior ones, what i have now is far superior to any that went before it
