So come on then, no-one else has opened a thread, so here is your chance.
Is the syndication of fishing for the enjoyment of a lucky few, right, wrong or just one of those things?

Have syndicates stolen fishing away from clubs or would all fishing have been lost on some waters, but it was saved by the formation of a syndicate?

A spot I fished on the trent last year has been lost to day tickets, dont know how yet, good job the river still has plenty of spots to go on.

imagine how much better some of the busy day ticket lakes would be if the were syndicated.....no litter, no arguments about which 10 square yards of water you can fish, no 400 mile round trips to find no swims available, less pressure on the fish, better standard of angler? (by which i mean you can sort the caring anglers from the fish at any cost...)

It will be interesting to see if any other stretches of the Trent are lost to syndication. I suppose better syndication than just lost. I had a walk up to the weir at Fiskerton about a year ago from the Barnsley length. Whether you approach from Hazleford or Fiskerton, it is a bloody long walk. It would be a shame if other stretches are taken over, but things change. I never forgave Nottingham Fed for passing the Fiskerton water on to Barnsley. At least Notts anglers are more progressive in acquiring water on the river rather than giving it up.

I fished a day ticket stretch of river for a few years.
The Barbel society took it over, so I applied to join. But then I found once I was a member, I would have to go on a waiting list to join a syndicate to fish it. I never bothered.

If a group of people got together and leased or bought a new water for themselves as a syndicate, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Difficult one this cos what works for some deffo don't for others.

I used to fish Adams on a club ticket (4 years) and then it was syndicated.....
I also used to fish Kickles on a club ticket, and that got syndicated again (for all the wrong reasons). I was gutted and argued me corner on this site, however I also hold a ticket for Broadwater which is run by the BCSG and some would say I am lucky or priviledged. Maybe. But there are two banks of that water open to anybody who joins the local club and it don't cost £200 which is the BCSG rate.

I don't have a problem with the syndicates, there is enough water available to me out there, but I do hate it when local clubs which have held water rights for years lose them to syndicates just because the fish start getting seriously large.

How big does a syndicate have to be before it becomes a club? Is an 'exclusive' club with limited numbers and a waiting list anymore acceptable than a syndicate? Is a club that restricts membership to those who live in a certain demigraphic area really just another syndicate?

A syndicate to me is just a small club with members who are prepared to put their hands in their pockets and pay substantial amounts of money to buy the rights to fish a particular water because they think its worth it. Where's the problem in that?

The worlds not a perfect place, if it was all fishing would be free!

Syndicates are just another facet of angling memberships. I started one with a small group of friends on a small completely unfished section of river in Herts a few years back. The fishing was reasonable, no huge bags or huge fish but incredibly peaceful and relaxing. Well worth a bit more money at the time. I can't really disagree with them but can certainly see the circumstances when they are not favourable to some anglers.

Murray if you are serious about Red Spinners I believe you have to be proposed by a member and then accepted by everybody, they do actually use a bag with black and white balls, one black ball and you don't get in.

A friend of mine was proposed but he turned them down, he's pretty sure that he's the only person ever to have done that.
