Default something a bit different

Last summer i was fishing for some carp on a small lake, the lake held some nice crucian hybrids which could be seen swimming around most days in large shoals. Floating cat biscuits got them going mad. I thought about a different approach to fishing for them and came up with the idea of fly fishing for them. Id seen anglers use this for larger carp so i just scaled my gear down. Light 5 rated 9ft brook rod a floating line and a 4Ib flurocarbon hooklink fitted the bill nicely. For bait i glued a cat biscuit to the back of a size 10 kamasan specimen hook and i was away. It was great sport getting the hybrids going nuts on the biscuits then casting to them, the takes where very finicky and it could be quite frustrating but very fun and absorbing nevertheless. They where a great scrap on the tackle and a welcome distraction from the harder to catch specimen carp. It was funny hearing remarks from the other anglers, they'd shout over "theres no trout in here lad"

Heres a few pics, a taste of summer with all this white stuff lying outside.

Looks like fun Danny, it's always good when you catch on either different or favourite methods. We don't all have to follow the same path.
Well done.

Ditto that & something I'm planning on learning to do next, must be great fun, I'm all up for a change of approach & tactics in my fishing, suppose it's like they say you know a change is as good has a rest.

Not the same scale as yours mate but I had a good few roach and Rudd out yesterday on the canal fishing floating caster on a pole rig with all the shot removed which makes the float act like a mini controller.

Brilliant stuff Danny. I've had a go at this too but found that flurocarbon hook lengths didn't work for me - it sinks like a brick - so I just stuck with mono

Mono is fine but it's worth degreasing the last foot of line.
I've just started trying for Carp on the fly, but using proper artificials, namely tying up bread flies with white deer hair. They work a treat even without free offerings of Wonderloaf.
