Default Polaroids - Recommendations

Hi

Has anyone got any recommendations for some good quality polaroids which can take the glare off the water so that it is possible to see any cruising fish under the surface and what are the best colour lenses that people would recommend for fishing in the UK?

Many thanks

There are two approaches. You either get great quality specs at £50 or more and get excellent polarisation, or if like me you are forever losing them and sitting on them, you take the £15 a pair route and make a small compromise.

I have had TF Gear sunnies for a couple of years and they're fine. I like bronze/amber lenses, which work well even in hazy light. The grey lenses don't seem to work any better even in bright sun.

I'm short-sighted and wear contact lenses, and I'm now looking at the bi-focals TF do, so I don't have to keep swapping with my reading glasses.

But make no mistake; spend £60 on a pair and you will see a small but significant difference in quality.

Raf: I did run a thread not too long ago on this subject which bought out a lot of good replies and information (including where to buy online) if you want to try the 'search' section...

Apparently 'Polaroids' is only a trade name and the glasses have polarised (or polarized-USA) lens from what I was told!

Hope this helps....

google Serengeti and take a look, they ARE the best glasses in the world! a little expensive, but not as much as some of the other american brands, you will get certain models for around £100, but, you do get what you pay for!
another good brand are the wychwood glasses for around £40, take a look on the harris sportsmail website, post free too! for this price you get alloy frames and top quality glass lenses...much better than plastic.

hope that helps

Try the Sungalsses For Sport site, loads of polarised lenses there, but....

GET BROWN or amber or yellow, NOT grey, as the former will protect you from AMD, Age-related Macular Degeneration and you'll see your float better. Brown and yellow cut out the blue light better from the spectrum and it's blue light that cause most damage.

Hem Hem... pardon me if I point you in the direction of a review by myself.... Inexpensive Bi-Focal Polarised Sunglasses

May be of some assistance !

Not quite as good polarisation as my venerable Oakley Frogskins but so much more user friendly for those with presbyopia and using contact lenses.... and I could buy four pairs for what Oakleys cost....

No longer manufactured but these are the best under £100.00 imho..........

eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace

Came tops in loads of mag reviews, eventually sold mine when I won a £350.00 pair of Maui Jim's in a match, however soon regretted it.

If you're going the £60+ route, take a look at Polaroid Trappers - get great reviews and my experience of Polaroids is that they have properly optically-corrected lenses.

I once had some Polaroid Xoor glasses. When I lost them, I was gutted. They are no longer made but they were the best sunnies I'd ever had.

And, God damn it, they are MADE IN BRITAIN!

still Serengeti for me, I was recommended by one half Norwegian fly fisherman by the name of Chris, he told me they where the best and he was not kidding, the drivers are also rated the best in the world too!!

apologies for being a bit persistent, but I believe in that buying good quality in the first place you are saving money!
