It put fly fishing into the big time not only in Britain, but throughout the world, especially in America. Here is an American, Charles Dudley Warner, a friend of Mark Twain's, writing humorously about fly fishing for trout in 1878 - Fly-Fishing History: Battling Trout, ca. 1878 | orvis.com/news
I like Warner's take on things that many of us are much too close to have any perspective on.
