A cheerful little film from Michigan here. The big fella with the fly rod casts a very nice line.

More dry fly stuff and a coincidence that happened today.

I was looking through some drawers of fly tying materials this morning when I found one pretty well stuffed full of sheets of Funky Foam (craft foam first bought from my local artists' materials shop twenty years ago and a lot more since) in many colours, and thought "Hoppers and beetles in Patagonia...".

Then, an hour later, looking at an American fly site, I happened to see a link to a film that featured them both. Lucky to have done quite a bit of it all over Argentina and Chile, including the area featured in the filming. Forget all the lodge- and the kit-plugging, look at the flies and the lovely fish that at times rise so freely to them.

I'll 'ave some of that. However much you've had it happen to yourself, you still want more. Trout, Black bass and salmon reaching for sky here.

Nice film from Denmark about sea-trout on dry fly here.

At the risk of inducing a nervous breakdown in one or two of our more sensitive members, I will observe two things:

1) That the several hundred yards of "dead" water" meandering through flat meadows above a weir on a certain Welsh river that I used to dry fly fish for brown trout when conditions were right in the 1970s and again in the 1980s turned up more than just the occasional daytime sea-trout on the dry fly for me, mostly shoal fish up to 1.5 pounds, but fish to 5 too.

2) That the 5- to 21-pound Argentine sea-trout that I hooked on dry fly fished off 5- or 6-weight tackle some years afterwards really did go.
