I've known times abroad when after shoaling predators like tune they can be very picky about size. Any lure not similar to the bait ball they are chasing is ignored time and again. Do you think our predators have similar habits?

Good piece KP, don't you think fishing mirrors life in that there is too much choice?

Hi Andy, like I said, I think we like to imaginge that fish are getting cleverer and we need to apply our superior knowledge in order to outwit our quarry. Certainly makes us feel better when we do......!!!!!

Kevin - another fine piece - and the worrying thing is - I fall into the same traps - ok only one rod but same lure in different colours , then different lures then move on - I should spend more time looking for the pike than looking what lure I fish with

A good piece Kevin. When it comes to lures, ''spoilt for choice springs to mind''.
I haven't carried a box of lures for many years, having come to the conclusion way back that ''location'' of the pike is ''the key''.
So I always carry a small selection in my jacket pockets of lures that have served me well over the years.
We lure anglers would do well to remember that pike don't think, ''they react''.

I have taken 'less is more' to the extreme by not going lure fishing anymore. I have never caught on a lure for some reason, so lack the confidence and enjoyment factors to be honest.

Loved the article, lots of common sense and humour. So, if you were allowed only three lures for the rest of your natural - what would they be? Mine would be a large spinner bait, a medium sized slow sinking jerk bait - sliveryblue - and a jointed slow sinker, yellow. Note however that I have caught only a few pike and the majority on the first lure mentioned.
