Sentimental journey - naff tackle thats kept

I have kept a few functioning Mitchells and short fibreglass ledger rods that still get an outing but the Efgeeco seat, Intrepid reels, Shaky Strike and Sigma all went to the tackle dump in the sky many years ago.

But whats the worst kit that you still keep hold of?

I am proud of my orange Huge Dog 10ft Avon style fibreglass rod. It may be a bit fast taper to be strictly called an Avon..but i made it from a Lerc pole and fitted it with all the latest Fuji rings and a Fuji locking reel seat too (easier than a cork handle - infact the glass was too thick for one at that end). Incredibly i caught a fair number of good fish on this rod - bags of chub or tench and a 1Ib 15oz roach once. Just need a Big Pit reel to go with it...

Edgar Sealey Black Arrow 2 float rod. My first rod, inherited from my old man. He didn't fish so I've no idea where or why he got it. I can't bin it, even though it's damned awful.

It wasn't the one with the metal frame and green waterproof covering was it? I'd have paid handsomely for one of those. Mine's got a white paint splash all over the front now thanks to one of 'er indoors' "little accidents".

I have an old Shaky Sigma rod in the attic, but that's about all. Most of it is renewed every ten years or earlier, ebay the old, ebay the new, good old ebay!

A Daiwa 123m bought for me by my mum shorty before she 'pegged out' - it is appalling beyond words but I won't part with it.

Yep. Mine wasnt the smallest in the range, I think it was the largest "Efgeeco Major" or soemthing?. The metal frame used to bang against my thigh leaving great bruising after a long walk. The seat bit was like plywood wrapped in that green material. That sagged in the middle and had started rotting.

I replaced that with a black Shakespeare fibreglass unit with a vinyl covered seat cushion. It was large enough to hold a small bungalow. I still use the seat cushion to this today - well built to last.

Those Efgeeco seat boxes were great, they were the only true alternative to a wicker basket back in the 70's. Was there a small/medium model, perhaps called a Cadet or similar. Thats the one I had. Unfortunately I no longer have it!

I bought mine for sea fishing (boats), wicker would have let the waves through and soaked my butties. I still have it - keep it just to remind 'er indoors to be more careful with the paintbrush in future.

Those lovely old Efgeeco seat boxes occasionally come up on flea-bay and go for sensible money, as opposed to the Efgeeco Pakaseats that seem to fetch well in excess of £100 these days.

I've got the butt half of one of those rods, I use it as an extension pole for my roller when I'm decorating. It slots perfectly into the handle of most rollers and saves me no end of bending and time. I can roller an average room in about 35 minutes with it and about an hour and a half without.
