No I don't but I get the high level picture, and the people on the board are good people. Real anglers.

I would like to think im a REAL angler but it doesnt alter the fact the AT has a lot to prove to persuade the ones who havnt joined to do so,and mark my words they will need persuading for the trust to be any use to us,nay even survive their formative years, there are a hell of a lot of good people who are not members of the trust, are they stupid,no i dont think so,its just that when someone says this is our last best hope, they've heard it all before from equally god like anglers who have been spouting b*****ks,lets live and hope eh.........

That's less than the cost of a Mars bar per week, or one modest night down the pub per annum, to PROTECT & PRESERVE our waters and the wildlife that thrives there for us and our kids to enjoy.

IMHO joining is a no-brainer!

Just what exactly do you want the trust to do then alan? what will they need to convince you of to get your 40p a week?

You see i struggle to understand where people like you are coming from because you never actually say what it is you want. For me its simple, i want a voice in westminster and i know that the only real way for that to happen is for an organisation to represent enough of the angling factions to be taken seriously.

This is an interesting statement.

You want it to succeed and grow from strength to strength, so despite the doubts you have, you have acknowledged in that statement that they do have a strength in order for it to grow.

However, AT like any other organisation cannot run on fresh air, it costs money to operate and if all the nation of anglers felt like you and didn't join until it had grown it's strength, well, it never would. It would have been suffocated at birth for lack of that vital ingredient - money because you and the others won't pay £20.

So what do you really want? I know, you want it to succeed on someone else's back and with someone else's money and when it's the resounding succes you expected it to be THEN you will want to join and say how proud you are? Right?

Tell me, if you had a cart and a donkey and you wanted the donkey to pull the cart with you in it, would YOU be prepared to harness it up yourself or would you sit by the side of the cart waiting for some hapless soul to do it for you?

I just wondered, because it seems that a million or so anglers are just sitting on their butts waiting to claim the glory that someone else fought for.

THAT'S APATHY!

Bit like the guy in the job who moans about the paring away of his conditions and payscale but wont join the union. When the union get him a pay rise or another day off every year he joins in with that though. Bottom line is that if everybody did that there would'nt be a union and they would be worse for it.

You obviously cant read Bill & Woody as i said that i AM a member of the trust, its the non-members that need some idea of confidence in the trust, ive joined because i wouldnt want to think i hadnt given it a chance to blossom, but the time span of my waiting for a working percentage of the remaining 1.9+ million anglers to join is not infinite,so how many years is the wait to be 2/4/6/10,if its the latter i feel it would be too late to be of use.My £20 is paid and gladly so,but 30,000 members would be a p**s poor turn-out,let alone a paltry 10,000 or so.

There really is no need to think that the Angling Trust will fail.

Yes, it may fail to reach it's initial target growths.

Yes, it may have to cut it's cloth to suit it's Income and Support.

Yes, it may have to wind in it's rods and re bait.

But, it does not need to fail as an organisation.

What it needs to do is perform higher than people's expectations, and show that the people involved are more than capable of doing their jobs, and at a high, and consistant level of performance.

That would be good enough for me and my £20.00p a year. i would much rather back a group of people who are compassionate about angling, than 1,900,000 anglers who are only compassionate about themselves, even if it did mean i would save £20.00p a year.
