i have only been fishing once this year due to eye surgery a few weeks ago however i did well on my pleasure session so decided to fish a match there are 2 fliers on the lake iwas on and i drew one of them at the all in i was still 25 mins from being ready the wind was making my eyes water but i wasnt too worried because i was on a flyer when i got started i put a method feeder out to the island then fed pellets at 6 metres in front and under the tree to my left after n hour nothiing so i went on the pole in front nothing under the tree nothing back on the feeder 2 small carp back o the pole nothing under the tree i fed a cup of dead maggots and went over it with a sngle red maggot 6 carp in 6 put ins then the roach moved so back on the feeder my mate sat behind me and said it looks very shallow i said it never mre than a foot deep out there but thats where they come to feed back under the tree 3 more carp then the roach again just then 2 huge geese tried to go under the tree so i scaredthem off with my pole and they swam out to the island the next thing they were standing up in my feeder swim it was only 3 or 4 inches deep it turned out the bank had collapsed and the water was too shallow for the carp to feed in so i cast into deeperwater and had six more carp in the last half an hour but too late the damage was done i had turned a flyer into a flopper

Shame you were late setting up as you could have plumbed the depth first.
I find a 3/4oz bomb cast out and counted down in my peg a useful indication of depths.
