Default Pole match top 3 advice???

Hi all.

Total newbie to pole fishing. I've bought a 11m Maver pole. Have fitted elastic etc to power doodas. And fishing lovely. Had monster day couple of weeks ago.

Now my question is it came with "match" top sections. Is obviously a whip top thats telescopic.
What and how would i use this for? I gather it doesn't require elastic? But there is no ring like smaller whips have???

Sorry if this is a dim question!!!

Many thanks in advance.

Barry.

Many poles come with power and match top kits. Power kits are intended for use with the heavier elastics (up to the maximum rating of the pole) for the larger fish species. Match kits are intended for use with lighter lines and elastics for the smaller species.

I'd expect to be able to use a match kit with elastics up to around the ten mark. Power kits should cope with the bigger elastics up to the maximum rating of the pole.

Match kits are not meant for whip style (no elastic) fishing. They are meant to be cut back and then have elastic fitted. That's why there's no ring or flick tip type adaptor.

Ah ha i see. Now that sir makes sense. Thank you very much.

Sorry another question the top section is telescopic. How many sections should i put elastic threw? Can i get small bungs if only in slimmer sections?

Thanks again.

Just checked out the Maver Blue Vega, which I believe is the pole you have. Supplied with one power kit and one match kit as standard. Rated to a maximum of 20, so I'd stick to my guns and say sub 10 elastic in the match kit and 10 plus in the power kit.

Is it definitely telescopic? Many no1 sections of a match top three are. It's quite common for them to require cutting back so much as to leave only a few inches or less of the no1 section. Many folks discard the no1s completely.

You certainly can get very small bungs to elasticate from the no2 upwards. However, I'd tend to elasticate the full top set, given the choice.

Have a look on YouTube
Put "elasticating a pole" into their search. You will soon see what is required.

For silverfish I would use a no5/6 solid elastic. I use Preston slip system latex elastic. £2.50 for 5m. ample for one topkit.

As said above if the no 1/2 are telescopic, just remove the no 1 which more often than not is of no use anyway and fit a bush to the no 2.
