Hi all.

Just to introduce myself, I'm jim from North Yorkshire and have found my passion with Barbel fishing. It's been 10 years plus since I chucked a line in and only ever fished ponds back in the day.

Started fishing for barbel in early November 2016 and it took me 3-4 weeks before I got my fist barbel 7lb 4oz chuffed to bits. Plenty of chub along the way and plenty of blanks but kept pushing for a Barbel. Fished yesterday on the Swale stayed until after dark fished 2 rods single baits no freebies and it happened 10lb 10oz winter Barbel. Cannot wait to get back out. Roll on Christmas hols.

Hi Jim,

They say that you never forget your first barbel, I certainly haven't anyway; I remember it as if it was yesterday and my first barbel was in 1975 on the river Kennet at Newbury and it weighed just 5lb 8oz caught on 8lb sylcast line and a 5 SSG link leger and size 4 Specialist hook loaded with a cube of plumrose luncheonmeat. I can even remember the fight and the words my mate and I spoke during the fight. I caught a larger one of 8lb-ish later on that night but I can't remember it anywhere near as clearly as my very first barbel Lol.

Mine weighed about 5lbs less than yours Keith, it was from the Severn at Ironbridge, had it on a lobworm.

My first circa 1967. Single hempseed fishing for roach on the kennet.

Thousands later i still love them ( 3 today)
