Howdy all,
Did a spot of drop-lobbing over the weekend for some perch using my 8ft bomb/tip rod in which I put my lightest tip, rated at 2oz. Had success with plenty of bites and some cracking fish up to 2:8. Even caught a few fish on artificials after I'd used up all the worms.
So now I'm thinking to go and buy a more purpose built weapon for the job, ie a light lure job, say up to about 12-15g recommended casting weight.
Would there be any benefits over my little bomb rod ?
Should say I also enjoy throwing out small lures and jigs now and again.
Any opinions on this guys?
Cheers

If your bomb rod was doing the job, and you were not missing any bites then why bother with another rod?

We had a similar discussion on here some months ago about drop-shotting rods and many of the experienced anglers were quite happy using a bomb rod or short-ish light quiver rod.

I know that this reply will probably cost me my life membership of the Association of Fanatical Tackle Tarts Club, but . . . . . . .

Hey-ho

If something's not broken, why fix it?

Drop shot rods are generally softer in the tip, sometimes with spliced tips, to help with feel so I can't imagine a quivertip rod is going to be much different. I suppose the d/s rod may be a bit faster once it bends past the soft tip section (better hooking) and may be more responsive in your hand.

If you still want a perch lure rod then the greys G-lite is as good as you'll get in that sort of price range imho.

Ditto that, I really rate the Greys G-lite but as has been said if it ain't broken then why fix it?

I have a spro mobile stick 5-15grm; its overated in casting weight, but brilliant for lures 1.5grm to 10grm and great for dropshotting. Coupled with a spro urban reel, it is a pleasure to use & works out about £100 for both
