I was carp fishing using bright yellow boiles when I had a screaming take for the fish to drop off after 10 seconds
after reeling in the line was cut

I suspected pike was the culprit and changed over to a pike set up and caught a pike of about 10 lb on the 3rd cast

Well done. There are some strange things pike will take.
Every now and again you get one on maggot.
I had one chomp at a arlesey bomb dangling in the water when re baiting.

Perch are another odd ball. There are a couple of waters I fish where one reliable bait is luncheon meat, and a few times a season you get one on yellow corn.
Strange.

About three seasons ago I was fishing a still water where the pike were absolutely going nuts for deadbaits.

It felt like every pike in the 60+ acre pit was in my swim.

And, on one occasion when a bait flew off on the cast, I actually caught a pike - mouth hooked fair and square - on bare trebles. :eek:mg:
