Default New Season

My piking starts on October 1st , ( deadbaits ect ) , but given the weather as it is , it doesn`t feel me with confidence , It`s like having xmas day in june , it won`t feel right , I just hope that I`m wrong .

I've been thinking the same Les. It is way too warm for me to enjoy my piking at the moment. Chances are this spell will herald the end of the high summer though. A couple of frosts and we'll be off and running.

I feel the same,i have had this problem for the last few years..

The river needs some rain, and a few frost's..

When it gets cold the bait fish shoal up,this means one you can catch some lives, two you can track down the pike as they are never far away from the roach and dace shoals..

Now it is november before this happens..

So we loose a month of pike sport...But the fishing during late feb-early-march is good most big floods have gone fishing spot on.......

So what do they do bloody CLOSE SEASON.!!!!!!!!!!!

So in effect we have lost two months, plus the times lost to a flooded river..

Don't worry Les. By the 23rd of October last year, we'd had a thick coating of snow on the ground!

Sorry, it was the 29th. The date is on the picture.

I was out testing a new reel on thursday (abu 6501 c3)ready for when the weather cools and caught a small pike of about 6 or 7lb which was very lively but no bother on 80lb braid so it was soon on its way but the water was really warm still. I like abit of a nip in the air before i start my bait fishing for the pike so Ill be waiting a few weeks to let things cool down Anyhow still got some eels to catch.

It's a bit weird this season, the leaves are turning their autum colours early, apparently due to a dry summer.... Must have missed that!
Yet my first few zander sessions have seen me sporting a pair of shorts & t-shirt .... Just does'nt seem right to me.
I don't think i'll be dusting off the pike rods just yet, think i'll wait until the fireworks start kicking off, temps should have dropped a bit by then.

I tried a bit of spinning jsut before dusk yesterday - i got all excited & started getting out my old winter gear only to find the sun had come out & it was actually quite hot outside! I ended up going out in a t-shirt with just a small jacket in my bag for later on.
I caught nowt but i had a great time watching two kingfishers flying side by side up & down the canal for about an hour.

That's why i love fishing
