Sound advice Paul! Just a couple of points though:

There seems to be a tendency to move from short braid hook lengths to long fluoro hook lengths, experience more bites and say fluoro works better. In my experience moving from short hook lengths to longer hook lengths results in more bites without resorting to fluoro. My long hook lengths (regulars can go to sleep here!) consist of a long length of my main line with a short length of braid at the business end. Despite a lot of experimentation I've never found fluoro to be any better than this.

The absolute key to getting more bites is for the fish not to know that you're there. I know you touched on this when you said to rest the swim, but no noise, keeping low, using light leads where you can and casting as little as possible will work wonders!

Off on my hols now!
