Booo, I thought this article was going to be about free-lined potatoes...

I've seen the method used for Thai catfish and carp. Even sweet potatoes. Zeb Hogan feeds them with a potato when he visits a hatchery in Ayutthaya. Nat geo - monster fish of Thailand.

I was wondering do you use it cooked or raw?

Either is possible.

I used sweet potato last year, boiled for a couple of minutes to soften it but not so much that it comes apart when you hook/rig it.

Bob Nudd uses a pellet sized piece of raw potato soaked overnight in coffee/gravy granules.
