Default Entry level seat boxes?

Hello all,

I'm thinking of buying a seat box and currently weighing up the array of different seat boxes on the market for no more than £40.

I'm torn between two really, the classic Shakespeare team seatbox which I can get on ebay for about £25 and the Sundridge s-box 1. The Shakespeare seatbox appeals due to the range of accesories I can buy for it should I require them, like the tackle trays and octoplus legs etc. I also like the look of sundridge s-box 1 because of the 2 main storage areas and the clip on tackle trays which are already included in the price. I would like to see an internal picture of the top box though because I'm not sure if it's just another empty space or has built in divides for floats and other bits of tackle?

Any advice about seat boxes in general or the 2 I have mentioned previously would be much appreciated! There's a lot of choice!

Cheers,
Steve P.

I have the daiwa version of the shakey box which comes out occaisionally. Sturdy but in very hot weather I worry about its structural integrity compacting with my less than svelt 15 stone frame, but its never failed. My mate borrowed it who is heavier still and had no problems with it. In fact you'd be hard pressed to find someone who at some point on these forums who has never owned one, and few, like me, who still has one.

BUT, in this case dont buy new. Just dont. I seldom buy tackle second hand but you are in effect buying a plastic tub - what can go wrong ? I paid a fiver for mine at a car boot and there are stacks on ebay at the moment. On a good day you could get one with 2 side trays, a nice strap cushion, octoplus legs and assorted metal work for £25 or so and for a bit more maybe a top box but I'd guess you'd have to pick it up . Your local admag would be worth a look as well.

If you have a look on ebay, shaky boxes are one of the items that you have to collect and if you find one local you can get one for peanuts.

Failing that if you buy new then the shaky boxes will last a lifetime. I've got one in my garage with octoplus legs the original trays and float box which I've had nigh on 25 years, I only use it for storing bits in now mind.

I have the sundreidge JR3 box - if the one you're looking to get is simialr it ahs a deep storeage area at the bottom, 2 clip on side trays, under the seat are two trays that are divided into small storage part for hook packets, plumb weights ect, under theses are two area tha taren't divided into seperate pole rig holders BUT take about 6 in each side.

mine hasn't been out in 4 years - has mud feet and a spray bar for resting the pole on - it also has about a dozen pole floats and made up rigs in it - if you want I'm selling the lot including pole floats for £40
