An unused Richard Carter B Venables Centrepin reel has just sold on eBay for £1,180.50

I think this reel sold originally for around £400 in the mid 1990's.
Quite a good profit if the seller has owned the reel from new.

Do you think these reels are a good investment for the future or just an opportunity for some to indulge themselves?

A bit of both really mick.

I buy vintage rods and reels and top of the range fly rods and reels because they are just nice to have and use.

I personally wouldn't consider selling them though . . . . .

I'm with PJ on this one. A little bit of indulgence tacklewise is fine if you can afford it and it makes you happy then why the hell not ? Investment ? Not really....you might get your money back or turn a little profit on something rare and desireable but you're hardly going to retire to the Bahamas on the profits from a few centrepins. Use and enjoy and the hell with what anybody else thinks.

As I regularly tell the ever patient Mrs S......if not now, when ?
