How long do S pellets, Jelletsand other packaged baits normally keep for?

Ive had some that have been open for about 3 months now and sealed using the seal on the bag anf then left in the fridge, is that ok or do they lose their 'attractieveness' or appeal over time?

Same question applies to Sonu baits boilies, Sensasand Richworths also please, any idea how long they keep for after theyve been opened?

S pellets in their original resealed bag will be ok for more than 3 months easily. I don't even bother to put them in the fridge, a cool dry place is enough. You will be able to tell when they start to go off and should be thrown away because they become darker and tougher to the point that you may end up splitting then when trying to put them on the hook but that's after a year or so . Another tip, just dip them into your favourite flavouring liquid and that will give them a second youth even after months storage

Paul, I've had some opened S Pellets and some Bad Ass Madras Xpander pellets in my bait fridge for many months (since last May actually). I used some on Sunday to winkle out a couple of small carp and a bream and the pellets were just fine. I think the high oil content tends to 'preserve' them from going off too quickly.

Personally I wouldn't keep shelf lifeboilies more than about 6 months. Most of us are not sure exactly what goes into them so it's difficult to guage how quickly they would deteriorate and maybe even be bad for the water or any fish daft enough to eat them.

JON THOMPSON. halibut pellets sealed in the bag should keep for a long time but if their off they usually have a light powdery coating on them but the oil in them can go off as well . my advice to you would be to buy some new ones to be on the safe side. this wouldnot be a problem if the bait companies Put best before dates on their products.I Don't know about the bread.

I thought we wuz told by them as know that the oils in pellets go rancid after a few months storage ? Tho I must confess to being a trifle sceptical I binned my bags of two year old donkey chokers and will have fresh supplies for this years Catfish fish-in. Maybe using old ones helped me to blank.... hmmmm.

Windy, you did the right thing no matter if they were still good or not because fishing is a confidence thing so if you don't have confidence in you baits then yes it'll definitely help you to blank

But rancid to us may in some instances be attractive to some fish

Surely fishing with the best quality bait is better than using old gear, after all why waste time fishing with old bait when the new stuff will catch you more fish?
