| Wellies and waders are a thing of the past for most
anglers unless, of course, the priority is to wade rather
than wear the most comfortable and warm footwear.
Angling footwear has gone through a series of major
changes in the past few years, with more use being made of
modern, waterproof and thermal materials.
Anglers now demand that they should have warm feet, dry
feet, and still be able to walk to their pegs without
feeling they're taking part in the latest moon landing.
Ankle length boots, rather then almost knee length boots
are the answer, for we just don't need anything too long
providing we're not wading into the water.
These are the key points to a good fishing
boot:
- Waterproof
- Comfortable
- Warm
- Hardwearing
- Good grip in mud
- Easy to walk in
There are a number of boots on the market that offer
most, if not all, of those features, but some of them are so
difficult to put on and remove it can be a nightmare. This
is especially so when you've just got back to the car on a
wet and windy night, your fingers are freezing and the last
thing on Earth you want is a struggle to remove your
boots.
And that's where these new boots from Chub score very
highly. They really are easy to put on and get off, and part
of the reason for this is that they have a generous width.
So much so I would advise anyone to buy their correct size
rather than a size bigger, like most of us do when we intend
wearing them with a thick pair of socks.
I can vouch for the fact that they are warm, comfortable,
have good grip, are easy to walk in and waterproof to a
depth of about two inches where the lower section is welded
to the leather upper. The only thing I can't comment on is
if they are hard wearing, simply because I haven't had them
long enough to find out!
