Derriboot's Neptune Boot

The Neptune is the first thermal boot to be specifically designed for fisherman, unlike most thermal boots where fishing was an afterthought. They have some excellent features, such as:

· Made in the UK
· One-piece seamless poured moulding
· Completely waterproof
· Extremely supple non-split PVC
· Unique non-slip safety sole
· Individually tailored for left and right feet
· Individually sized in UK sizes 5 to 12
· Replaceable and machine-washable thermal lining
· Easy to clean

derribootThe company set out to address a series of demands from anglers. These were:

Stability - where good grip in slippery and often dangerous conditions is required.
Neptune's answer to this was to design a sole with forward facing, easy clean cleats.
Fitting and Style: Unlike some thermal boots, where the left and right foot are identical, Neptunes are tailored for left and right fitting.
Waterproof: the Neptune is a one piece, seamless boot that uses polyflex materials to ensure they remain supple even in extremely cold conditions, eliminating the tendency to split. They are 100% waterproof.

I found them a little tight round the calf on first wearing them, but realised later that this was mainly due to being used to a boot that was quite a sloppy fit. When I got accustomed to the snug fit I found the Neptune was warm, comfortable, waterproof and really had excellent grip on muddy, greasy ground. They are a generous length, coming right up to the knee, and the soft top prevented any chafing on long walks. The fact that they are specifically designed for fisherman is ably demonstrated.

The thermal lining is replaceable and is suitable for use in temperatures down to minus 40 degrees C. They are available in individual sizes from 5 to 12, and the recommended minimum retail price is £49.95. Spare linings: £15.95.

For those who prefer a shorter version, otherwise with the same specification, the Pisces is available at £45.95.

Available from Derriboots Ltd, telephone 0181 519 7878, Fax 0181 519 6756.

Coming soon - a review of the new Derri Proteus Field Boot.
