Grub Screws

Grub Screws come in different shapes and sizes

GRUB SCREWS
Price: £2.99 per packet of 5, plus 50p P&P for up to 5 packets

DEDD SCREWS
Price: £3.25 per packet of 5, plus 50p P&P for up to 5 packets

Weighted screws are still at the prototype stage but are expected to cost around a pound each

If you've ever tried mounting mag grubs and other soft plastic lures, you'll know the meaning of the word frustration.

Twisting, pushing, pulling, teasing, is it straight - oh shit, it's split..!

Now Essex-based lure angler Barry Kneller and a few of his mates have put their heads together and come up with Grub Screws.

Rig them up like the grub in the picture - NB: the hook would be nicked in the lure to fish with but I've slipped it out for clarity

The idea's so simple you'll kick yourself. Instead of trying to work a single hook into the bait, you just screw one of these wire thingammies in and attach the hook(s) to the eye on the end.

They withstand the strain of casting and the grub doesn't slip or sag like those rigged on a big single jig hook are prone to.

You can also have your choice of hook and the points ride proud, making for better hook-ups.

Barry, who's a retired engineer, makes them in different sizes, in both unweighted and with different-sized lead heads.

Having tried the prototype on and off since the start of the summer I can vouch for the fact they work.

You can also change lures in a second on the bank, when one gets shredded.

FISHINGmagic VERDICT

Great idea that will definitely make life a lot easier for the lure angler who uses soft baits.
