Not long ago I spotted these in my local tackle shop and just had to get a couple. Although known more for there tactical and commercial carp gear, 'Korum' seem to be heading more and more into the specialist market and with Ian Welch as a consultant I don't suppose this should be a surprise.
They are made from a lightweight, plastic type material which I'm assuming is pretty hardwearing as they have now been bouncing around in the bottom of my rucksack for a couple of months.
As well as the obvious advantage to tackle tarts (who want their rods to be perfectly parallel) the main plus of these mini buzz bars is the ability to rotate the head to be perpendicular with the rod regardless of what angle the rod rest is inserted in the ground.

When I first saw them I planned to use them as part of my barbel set up and I use them in conjunction with two John Roberts butt grips and 'windy head' rests (see pictures) and although I don't personally use bite alarms for river fishing it is pretty obvious that these would be absolutely ideal for those anglers that do.
A simple push button above the screw thread turns the main body of the buzz bar into preset locators which then snap firmly into position. What I really like is that the adjusting mechanism is simple, effective and has no fiddly thumbscrews that can fall into the river when you are adjusting them with numb hands in January. It really does just take seconds to change.
This got me thinking. I can, and will, now use them for all kinds of stillwater fishing, especially when time is at a premium such as a summer 'after work' session. Just two rod rests and two buzzers and I have a quick set up which my bobbins can be clipped to. This means that whatever the shape of the bank I'm fishing from is, be it level or sloping, my rods can be set up perpendicular to the alarms in just a few seconds.
They say the best ideas are simple, non-complicated ones and these are a great example of that philosophy.
