Collapsible Maggot Klip Rig

This rig incorporates both the Korda Maggot Klip and a metal 'O' ring.

The 'O' Ring is placed onto the hook and attached via a supple braid hair. The maggot klip is then threaded onto this ring and allowed to sit above the hook. The point being that when a fish tries to reject the bait, the braid will collapse and not pull the hook out of its mouth, rather like the d-rig.

It is also important to use a stiff hooklink, so the supple braid has something to be 'pushed' against. The job of the stiff hooklink is to keep the hook in place while the braid collapses. For hooklink material, i'd recommend Korda IQ - this is a stiff flurocarbon, which also helps keep the rig 'invisible'. Keep the hooklink short - no more than 4 inches and fish straight off an inline lead; bolt rig style.

As far as hooks go, obviously they have to be sharp but make sure you test the rig so that it pop's up properly, otherwise it will be easier to eject if the hook is too heavy to keep it popped up. Long shanked hooks will mean that you can use a longer braid hair, making life a little easier and also allowing the braid to collapse further before it hits its limit.

The 'O' ring must be sitting at the top of the shank so as not to allow it to pass over the top of the hook and fall off over the point.

This rig is meant to be fished 'pop-up' style; using fake maggots to aid the real maggots in popping up is recommended here.
