Review - Calcutta Flashfoil Swim Shads

Calcutta Flashfoil Swim Shads
Calcutta Flashfoil Swim Shads

Calcutta Flashfoil Swim Shads

  • Four sizes: three, four, five and six inches
  • 28 colours
  • £5.95 per pack of 4 to 6 lures depending on size
These chunky shads from Calcutta come in handy re-sealable pouches. They look the part as well, especially the bigger ones with flared gills.

Weighting system
With a weighting system

The hooks are nice and sharp straight out of the packet but are easy to touch up with a stone.

You might say a shad's a shad but these have a weighting system akin to a built in keel.

We only had an hour to sling them around and while we had a couple of follows couldn't provoke a take.

One thing I did notice is the action is more subtle than a lot of rubber lures. To get the tail waggling required a fairly brisk, straight retrieve.

These come in four sizes - three, four, five and six inches - and 28 different colours.

Each packet costs £5.95 and contains between four and six lures depending on size.

See the Calcutta website for more.

Chris Bishop's VERDICT

Adding a split ring to lures like these makes them a lot less fiddly to clip on and off the trace.
