Overview

It's common knowledge that staying warm in winter means wearing several layers designed especially for the job. A light, thermal layer next to the skin, a good middle layer (or two in really severe weather) such as a pullover and a good fleece, topped off with some good quality breathable waterproofs. Anglers have a choice of some of the best waterproofs on the market, and there are many excellent fleece jackets around, but until now we have had to borrow from the hikers and climbers to find good winter underwear. No more though, Shimano have stepped in with their new Breath Hyper base layer range.

Shimano Say

Heat Generation by Moisture Absorption
The material both generates and retains heat by using the moisture from the body. Hydro-Heater, a feature of the garments unique material, turns the moisture created by perspiration into heat. The net result is a warming effect of 2-3oC inside the garment and 15-10% less moisture.

Antibacterial And Deodorisation Function
The antibacterial material prevents bacteria from breeding and reduces odour.

Super Stretch
Super Stretch material creates a more comfortable fit and ensures free movement.

Preventative Static Electricity Function
The material prevents the generation of uncomfortable static electricity when compared with normal acrylic materials.

Easy Dry
Easy dry efficiency absorbs sweat quickly and keeps the material always dry.

Breath Hyper Top
Maintaining optimum breathability, antibacterial and anti-static fabric properties, this highly mouldable material ensures a perfect fit and free movement.

Breath Hyper Bottom
The perfect accompaniment to our BreathHyper Top and manufactured to the same specification. Ideal for all seasons. the high-tech material is designed to maintain optimum body temperature, by converting moisture into heat. This is an ideal garment to wear under any Bib 'n' Brace or set of waders.

FishingMagic Verdict

I've been wearing a set of these Breath Hypers for over a month now (with regular washes in between of course before somebody makes a smart remark!) and I can say without a shadow of a doubt that they're the most comfortable long sleeved tee-shirt and long johns I've ever worn. And they're really warm. They cling to the skin without being tight and stretch with every movement. They feel great.

And on long walks, in spite of being over warm I haven't felt all sweaty and horrible, with the effect that when I have sat for a spell to fish the sweat hasn't frozen and made me feel cold.

Breath Hyper underwear isn't cheap, but I've never minded paying a few quid more for gear that really does do the job. And this base layer lives well up to its advertised capabilities.
