Review - Wychwood Braid Scissors

Wychwood Braid Scissors

Wychwood Braid Scissors

  • Ergonomic rubber/plastic handles
  • Micro serrated blades
  • Soft touch handles
  • Around £3.99

Overview

High quality British made with ergonomic rubber/plastic handles, micro-engineered for maximum performance.

These have micro serrated stainless steel blades with soft touch handles. Will easily cut most modern braids and monofilaments without having to tension it.

Nice, neat size with finger holes large enough for some of the biggest fingers so long as you're right handed.

There's not a lot more you can say about a pair of scissors.

Jeff Woodhouse's Verdict

I've tried three different makes of braid blades or scissors now, as will most of you keen carpers. If you try cutting with them without putting some tension on the material, sometimes it works and on other occasions you get a slightly ragged mess. Whether it's because these scissors have serrated edges on both blades I don't know, but in quite a few tests I've carried out so far these seem to give a very clean cut with certain types of materials.

The method with which you use them can count for a lot. For example; holding them in your right hand, you should push against the thumb hole and pull against the finger hole, which in turn, closes the blades much tighter together. Cutting at the points sometimes improves the cut whilst cutting at the throat of the blades gives a satisfactory finish.

I will say though that the handles were designed only for right-handed people, left handers will find the grip very difficult and for that they lose a star! It's best to try them yourself to see whether you will like them or not, but at around £3.99 they're pretty good value.
