Review - Kryston Meltex PVA Bags

Meltex PVA Bags from Kryston

Kryston Meltex PVA Bags

  • Slim Jims, 50 x 130mm, Super Rockets, 75 x 130mm, Snak Pax, 50 x 85mm, Mini Rockets, 75 x 85mm, all £2.99 for 20 bags or 50 for £5.99 Super Tubes, 85 x 190mm £2.99 for 10 bags

Overview

I've used an amazing amount of different PVA products over the years, and until recently, most were a compromise one way or another, and most had a couple of problems.

The original non-embossed bags used to be very difficult to work with - often you could waste an entire packet as they seal themselves and you can't get them open. This was 'cured' by some manufacturers by dusting the bags in chalk powder to make them easier to open, but you still found most of them were fairly thin. This meant that they were difficult to work with in the damp, and as I like using liquids in the bags they would explode on the cast.

Easy to open

Embossed bags were much better, they are thicker and don't have problems getting them open, but often they have a weak seam. The ones I've found to be the best are these Meltex bags from Kryston. They are strong so you are able to pack the bags very tight - essential for range or accuracy - without the bottom falling out of the bag partly due to the seam being up the middle of the bag, rather than at the sides. They also seem to cope with liquids fairly well. The dissolve rate is excellent, even in winter, and if you follow the instructions on the pack you won't be left with any residue. Strangely, given the dissolve times, they are easy to work with and quite forgiving in damp conditions.

My favourite ones are the “Snak Pax” - perfect for distance fishing and little 'traps' and the 'Slim Jims' which I like to use 'stick' style when I want a lot of liquid attractors around the hookbait.

A well thought out, and excellent range of products that compliment the Kryston specialist hooklengths perfectly….maybe Dave should design a hook!

A well thought out, and excellent range of products that compliment the Kryston specialist hooklengths perfectly….maybe Kryston boss Dave Chilton should design a hook!

I agree with Dave, the 'snak pax' are my favourite too. Not just for distance casting but for putting a really, tight, small amount of bait next to the hook in winter.

A great product.
