Review - Dynamite Marine Halibut Boilie Range

Dynamite Baits New and Improved Marine Halibut Boilie Range

  • Available in 10mm, 15mm, 18mm, 20mm and 26mm sizes in shelf life and in 15mm freezer baits
  • Also available are pop ups, liquid attractant and the new Marine Halibut paste
  • RRP for boilies vary from £7.99 to £8.99 for 1kg packs (depending on bait size), the paste costs £3.50 per tub, pop-up cost £4.99 per pot and the liquid attractant £4.99 for 250ml bottles.

Overview

With the number of pellets currently being introduced into the country's lakes, ponds and rivers it will come as no surprise that that a boilie based on this rich food source would be such a success.

For me the most versatile all the pellet range has been the Halibut pellet and it is this that Dynamite have based their pellet boilie range upon. Made with the same ingredients as their successful Marine Halibut Pellets their boilie range is available in 10mm, 15mm, 18mm, 20mm and 26mm sizes in shelf life and in 15mm freezer baits and to compliment these also available are pop ups, liquid attractant and the new Marine Halibut paste.

Probably due to the popularity of halibut pellets this boilie is probably one of the most instant baits I have ever used and would therefore always be one of the first I would try when visiting a new venue.

That said experienced anglers know that some instant, high attract baits, can quickly 'blow' but personally speaking I'm catching just as many fish as when I first started using them a couple of years ago.

I have found them to be a particularly good barbel bait and fished over a bed of particles I like to fish two 10mm on a hair and for winter flood condition I use the 15mm or 20mm sizes.

All my hookbaits are glugged in the liquid attractant of the same flavour and I also pour a generous amount of this over my loose feed. In the past I have made my own trout pellet paste but I'm looking forward this season to trying the new marine halibut paste moulded over the hookbaits, I'm sure this will put me a few extra fish on the bank.

Gary Knowles' Verdict

All in all a convenient, quality bait in a matching range that can cover practically any eventuality. Already finding appeal with a great many anglers whether they target commercial carp fisheries or fish more natural venues in pursuit of specimen carp, bream, tench or barbel I'm sure the new range will be equally popular and successful.

As I understand it, the pellet range gets its name because the original was a pellet used to feed farmed halibut. It is, unless anyone can inform me otherwise, made from fishmeal and fish oil.

This raises a small but serious ethical question; at a time when the oceans are so over-fished, should coarse anglers be endorsing the processing of fishmeal from endangered wild fish populations; yes, I agree that the amount of pellets used as bait is a drop in the ocean, if you'll forgive the pun, but there is a question of principle.

Maybe we should 'offset' our use by vowing not to buy farmed or sea fish....?

Interesting article about this serious problem HERE ...
