Review - Wychwood Extremis Carp Line

Price: £6.99

Specification/Description

  • Available in 8lbs, 10lbs, 12lbs, 15lbs, 18lbs breaking strains on 4oz spools

Website: www.wychwood-carp.co.uk

Overview

Wychwood Extremis line has been developed to offer amazing abrasive resistance and knot strength for when the going gets really tough.

Specifically higher abrasive resistance than many other lines, Extremis carp line is the choice of many anglers. Despite its strength, Extremis is very supple.

Jeff Woodhouse's Verdict

I just wanted some 8lbs line rated around 0.25mm and this seemed to fit the bill. The price was very much a bargain as I even got a small discount, unless it was mistakenly marked, I got it for a penny under £6. I had no idea then, of course, what price it was supposed to be, but with 1970 metres on the spool, who can complain? If it turned out to be no good at all, I could use it for packing on other reels at least.

First job was to check the diameter. I always allow for a line to be 0.1mm out either way, I guess experience has told me that many are and this one is no exception. It was a smidgen under .26 and I was quite happy with that. The colour, unlike the photograph, is a pleasant green (like Terre Verte, if any artists know what I mean) and it is quite supple.

The only problem I have noticed - maybe some of this comes from the colouration of the line - is it seems to show up the line twist that will eventually occur in any line on a fixed spool reel. It's like some bits become lighter coloured, but it feels OK and I'm not going to worry unduly about it and it has so far suffered the rigours of the stony weir pool. It has also landed a few carp so far, but only up to 8 or so pounds, same with a bream I had, which was weighed at 8¼lbs, so it's doing everything it promises so far.

So, if you are looking for a quality budget line then add this to your list. At - get this - about 50p per fill of spool (say 130 metres based on 8lbs) you really cannot complain and will easily be able to afford to change it quite often.

Rating: 8/10

It's been a while since I tested this line and since then I have used it for a little light perch and pike spinning and its behaviour is superb.

I am now about to change it, reloading with the same again and at 50p a shot who's complaining?

It's a great line.
