Predator or Prey?

Were they being playful or were they angry? Or just downright hungry!
Two pike weighing about 4lb each were found in the margins of the Royal Canal in Ireland, one with its head well inside the jaws of the other.When an attempt was made to remove them from the water for closer inspection, they shot apart.
One fish jumped onto the bank, while the other disappeared into the reeds.
