Richard Lee, Editor in Chief of Angling Times comments, “We’ve noticed a real upsurge in our sales figures over the last year and when we asked these new readers to tell us what got them hooked the main response was that fishing is a much cheaper and more enjoyable alternative to other hobbies.”

Fishing is not only cheap but a fantastic pastime for anyone wanting to enjoy the great outdoors and feel healthier, as leading social psychologist Dr. Julie Coultas highlights, “Fishing is an ideal way to get closer to nature, and contact with nature is good for the health – engaging in outdoor pursuits has far-reaching benefits for everyone”.
With beginners’ angling sets widely available for under £10 and a junior annual licence costing just £5 fishing really is a pastime that allows any youngster to enjoy the countryside. Also for cash strapped parents trying to keep the kids entertained in the forthcoming summer holidays fishing offers a much cheaper alternative to a Playstation.
