Shimano Girls do it for Charity
Three of the Shimano girls join in the 'Race for Life' to raise money in support of Britain's top cancer charity.
Now in its 16th year, Race for Life is Cancer Research UK’s flagship event which brings together thousands of women each year to walk, jog or run 5k and raise money to beat cancer.
To date, four million women have raised over £240 million for Cancer Research UK’s life‐saving work and this year a team from Shimano UK decided to take on the challenge.
Sharon, along with team mates Kassie and Amy, all from Shimano UK, joined the 4,500 women and girls that ran the event on the 5th July at Cheltenham racecourse.
Following an emotional opening speech by Sarah Green the team set off on the 5k with ‘Squadron Leader’ Kassie cracking the whip all the way. 40 minutes and a lot of water, sweat and tears later, the girls crossed the line together.

“I’m in training for the 10K now!” commented Kassie “a very memorable day, emotional and a fantastic way to get women together to raise money”. Amy was equally enthusiastic “I had a wicked day, and am so glad now that the girls talked me into running. I can't wait to do it again and hopefully raise twice as much cash!. “It was a truly emotional day for many reasons,” said Sharon, the group’s organiser, “but I couldn't have got to the end without the support of the tribal girls!”
“We’re so proud of the girls here at Shimano.” commented Craig Brew, Shimano’s MD “They put a huge amount of effort into training and fundraising and received tremendous support from family and friends along with some incredibly kind donations from a number of our customers. A fantastic effort all‐round.”
Overall, the Cheltenham event is expected to raise £20,000 for Cancer Research.
