A new 'Angling Live' show planned for London's ExCel on 23 – 24 March 2013 is set to raise the bar of UK angling events.

The man behind the project, planned to be angling's largest ever public event, is Angling Media's Simon Bennie who has over 18 years’ experience in the exhibition industry but who is concerned that angling does not have a quality exhibition which does justice to the sport.

Simon commented:

“There are a lot of good angling shows out there but many focus on a ‘pile it high sell it cheap’ model, although there is a place for that in our market there is also room for a manufacturer and wholesaler led event with controlled retail element.

There will be no more than 15 retailers at Angling Live and they won’t have to store tons of gear on the exhibition floor as purchasers will be able to collect larger items from a dedicated and easily-accessed collection area.

We will be concentrating on a polished, professional event that attracts the top manufacturers and, like all other leading consumer events, is a family day out in a top class arena.”

As far as arenas are concerned they don’t get much better than the ExCel, which is an international exhibition and convention centre situated on a prestigious waterfront location in the heart of London’s Docklands. It is part of a 100-acre campus, which includes three DLR stations, easy access to the underground rail system and London City Airport and has parking for 3,700 cars. In addition there are six on-site hotels and numerous bars and restaurants.

“Anglers will have the chance to chat to the consultants on the stands and also test out the products on the water outside the venue.” said Simon who is looking to get the whole of the industry behind him and to deliver some 150 exhibitors.

Other planned features and attractions planned include:

• Under 13's go free

• Special ‘show only’ offers from retailers

• Celebrity theatres

• Indoor demonstration lake

• Outdoor live events and demonstrations on the docks

• Daily prize giveaways

• Crèche facilities

• Spa facilities

About time a decent show was resurrected. The old one at the NEC was very good in the early years but in the latters ended up being no better than an indoor car boot sale. Add to that the cost of parking and it became a bit of a no go'er. Saying that though I can see any show only having a certain life expectancy as no matter what you call a pole it's still a pole, bait is only bait, and a reel is a reel. Shame that this one is planned for London though as you can almost guarrantee parking and entrance will be exorbitent. Would have been good to have it Midlands based, but hey ho it's not me who came up with the idea.

Judas, That's a bit selfish, it's about time us Londoner's had a show as it seems that they are always in the "Midlands" the old NASA do's were in the "Midlands". The NEC has had its share so I think the "Midlands" has had its go mate. The Excel is a great venue and it's on my door step and in walking distance so no parking fees.:guinness: Have to agree about life expectancies of any show, folks get a bit fed up with the same old same old people talking and slide shows but they keep a few egos in the limelight. Kind regards Ray

I only had a quick read but it seems to me it's nothing more than a tackle show...two a penny for the punters!

Fair do's Ray, it's certainly grim down South. Fred Think from reading and a bit of research it's going to be similar to the NEC in its early days. Certainly sounds like it should be a huge improvement on the shows currently doing the rounds and one, if it were closer, i'd attend.

It may be Phil, the NEC was before my time.I was still playing cricket 2 days a weekend. If it works the same way as my recent experience at the Ricoh, then it has promise, it just needs to ensure it's audience is wide, and just a bit more than tackle selling.
