Four new members joined the Fishing For Everyone Ladies Fishing Club at their recently held October Club event

ladiesff.jpgHeld on Saturday 10th October at Whinney Loch, Coldingham, the Fly Fishing event saw 13 year olds, Ellen Peyton and Polly Smith and 14 year-old, Rosie Beveridge –Pearson join the Club for the event. They were also joined by 21 year-old, Philippa Snaith who attended the event with her mother, Pearl on her second Club outing.

Ellen and Philippa both did extremely well with Ellen catching two beautiful Trout and Philippa landing a beautiful 4 1/2lb rainbow, caught on her first ever fishing trip.

Founder and Chairman of the Fishing For Everyone Ladies Fishing Club, Lucy Bowden said;

“The FFE Ladies Fishing Club has had a fantastic fishing season and we would like to thank all of those venues that we have visited including Sweethope Lough, Chatton Trout Fishery, Whinney Loch, Witton Castle Lakes and Higham Lakes.

“I would also like to personally thank the ladies themselves for all of their help and support for without them, the Club would not be running. I am very excited about the coming year ahead and feel that we have a great Committee that will lead the Club onto bigger and better things in the coming years.”

The Fishing For Everyone Ladies Fishing Club are due to end 2009 with a BBC News report on their success next week and they will be holding an end of season dinner at Blackmores of Alnwick on Saturday November 21st. Any ladies interested in joining the Club for their annual dinner are more than welcome. The Club are also looking out for new members. Interested? Email Lucy:

Isn't it ironic that most fishing clubs are open EVERYONE, yet the Fishing For Everyone Fishing Club is for LADIIES ONLY?????? They should change the name to Fishing For Everyone As Long As You Are Not A Man.

That's ****- how can a fishing for EVERYONE be women only - we should all join and see what happen how about a Fishing for everyone WHITE MEN club - that would soon be on the new And the BBC is reporting on it in the club - what about all those time England are world champs at match fishing and don't make the news on BBC or any other TV

They'll be Fishing for the Fem Fresh Cup next :wh I think it's a good idea to try to introduce more women to the sport of Angling, pity it's just got a stupid girlie name. (i bet a blonde came up with the name).

I have thought long and hard about this one. A club of any kind, other than say "The Pudding Club", that is exclusively for a certain specific gender is discriminatory and sexist, and not the sort of thing we should be promoting in this day and age. I have not met Lucy Bowden (a nice Cornish name, she might even be distantly related to my late wife), but I think she is a nice girl. Just a little mixed up if you ask me, and that penchant for pink wellies - uuurrrggghhh!!! She needs to understand that the most unsexy colour a woman can dress in is pink! By the way, I've never seen a man in the Pudding Club - yet!

The Labour Party has a 'Womens Section', Ron. It might even have a Womens Angling Club. Note it's not 'Ladies' in the LP. They're usually confined to making sandwiches for the Durham Miners Gala ;) There is also Casting For Recovery, residential fishing and casting tuition courses aimed at women recovering after surgery for breast cancer. I applied for a place after my boob job but I don't think they accept hairy &rsed chub anglers. Strangely, I was never offered breast reconstruction or even a prosthetic breast; is that discrimination against men

I'm all for complete equality of the sexes John. Unfortunately most women are not. They want specialised women's this, and specialist women's that; we as men don't. I wonder why?

Would they require proof of sex? Do they give exhibitions? Would they hold ones rod when answering a call of nature? Is makeup allowed? Do they have a bias against maggots? Sigh!.....So many questions ....sigh!

Hi, As a newcomer here I am a little dismayed by the comments made by some here. I run a small club in South Wales, mainly for ladies who would like to fish away from the guys. Why, well the answer is that when there is a group activity, regardless of the activity involved, introducing men to the group changes the dynamics of the group. I have seen a pleasant days fishing totally ruined by a bloke joining us. I am yet to meet a guy who isn't competitive and has an ego to match. This may sound more than a little sexist but it is true and judging by most of your comments I rest my case.

Jeepers! Are some of you macho boys feeling a little threatened? :D Why on earth shouldn't they have a ladies only club? Is any bloke on here going to honestly hold their hands up and claim that they have no part of their social life that isn't almost guaranteed to be lady-free? Good luck girls! :)

I suppose you do have a point Chris. What that point is, i have absolutely no idea :D Why do people keep refering to the Women, as Ladies, and us as Men? Why not Women and Gentlemen. If i was to say i am starting a Gentlemens only Fishing Club, because us Gentlemen don't like to be Nagged at, or to have our Pegs hoovered out just while we are in the thro's of landing a fish, or have our Tackle Polished while we are fishing  There would be bloody hell up, Because the Women want equal rights, but, then want to move the rules around as and when it suits them. Tough, grow up, wisen up and just get bloody on with it, bloody whingeing .............................. takes a deep breathe. Sorry, i am a little grumpy this morning, because i am tired. :p

Serious bit.....look at the Sport England survey..see how few women replied which may reflect the number of female participants in our sport. Look around you when you go fishing..how many women are fishing? We are constantly discussing the numerous threats, potential and actual, to our beloved sport....and then promptly seek to alienate 50% of our potential support. There are women involved in our sport but not enough....how many female contributers are there to this forum (the most successful angling forum). I can think of about 10 in the time I've been on this forum!! Anything that encourages more people to participate and promote our passion is welcome. If it is single gender fishing clubs then so be it...after all the vast, vast majority of angling clubs are effectively single sex clubs! I know and appreciate that the vast bulk of this thread is in jest AND done by great blokes who will do loads to encourage and promote our sport but sometimes just take a deep breath before tapping the send button. (I should talk!!! :wh) ---------- Post added at 10:31 ---------- Previous post was at 10:30 ---------- By the way, I've never seen a man in the Pudding Club - yet! So wrong....The Pudding Club | Devoted to preserving the tradition of the great British pudding.

One of the reasons women don't fish as much as men is due to the lack of toilet facilities at most fisheries except commercials.
The Monk on 11/11/2009 10:44:24

yes it doesnt help, in the states fishing is more family orientated and you tend to find more of the sweet litle things participating, we should certainly encourage this, why if we get enough pretty ladies on the bank I might even get my rod out again
Poshpaul (Angling Trust and PaSC) on 11/11/2009 10:48:30

Great point...and the cleanliness of some of those facilities too....got to say I sometimes wonder how/why we blokes tolerate some of the stuff we do!
Stealph Viper on 11/11/2009 11:44:56

If more women went fishing the Toilets would be spotless and the facilities would be immaculate. They couldn't help themselves from cleaning it all :D I take my wife fishing, and, she regularly beats me she regularly catches more than me. I love to see women and kids fishing alongside the men, but, i can't stand women bleating about having to fish alongside men, so, they fish in their own little women only groups.

Maybe it's my age but one of the reasons I go fishing is because it's a bloke's thing and it gives my ear 'oles a rest. If you want a good insight into how women 'think' watch 'Loose Women' on weekday lunchtimes. The programme is a good example of how things have swung the other way with them saying things about blokes that men just couldn't get away with saying about women today. Bring back black leading, mangles and dolly pegs I say and keep 'em busy:D
